3.1.4.4.1. Ignition system

GENERAL INFORMATION

Design and functioning of system of ignition

Both such as the DOHC engine are equipped with electronic system of ignition:

  – engines with carburetor fuel system: system of ignition of ESC II;
  – engines with injection: system of ignition of EES IV.

System of ignition of ESC II

And – the electromagnetic valve of overlapping of supply of fuel after switching off of the engine,
B–generator,
C–rezistorny heating element of the automatic starting arrangement of the carburetor,
D–switch of ignition,
E–module of management of ignition of ESC II,
F–the sensor of temperature of cooling liquid,
G–sensor of situation and number of turns of a cranked shaft,
H–coil of ignition,
J–accumulator,
K–I will corrode codings of octane number of fuel

This system contains:

  – the ignition distributor with the distributor of a high voltage and the contactless sensor of the Hall which is carrying out a role of the sensor of number of turns of a cranked shaft of the engine;
  – ignition coil;
  – the vacuum sensor in an inlet collector;
  – the sensor of temperature of cooling liquid;
  – the sensor of neutral position of the lever of gear shifting of an automatic transmission (only in cars with an automatic transmission).

The electronic module of management of ignition of ESC II receives signals from these sensors and on their basis and the data containing in his memory, selects optimum, for these operating conditions of the engine, the moment of interruption of a current in primary winding of the coil of ignition, and thereby an optimum angle of an advancing of ignition. Then includes a current in primary winding and interrupts a current in it during the moment when in the next cylinder there should be an ignition, again submits a current to this winding etc.

The corner of an advancing of ignition is constantly regulated according to received signals and data containing in memory of the electronic module.

In engines with the carburetor the module of management of ignition of ESC II corrects also the provision of a butterfly valve in a no-load time depending on number of turns, loads of the engine (for example, transfer inclusion in an automatic transmission or turning on of the compressor of the conditioner), a thermal condition of the engine, and also from the provision of a butterfly valve.

Prevention

The method of check of elements of system of ignition of the DOHC engine incorporated with system of injection of fuel entering into a control system of the EES IV engine, is given in the section of injection of fuel.


System of ignition of EES IV

This system of ignition functions on the same principle, as the system of ignition of ESC II, only is incorporated with fuel injection in the general control system of the EES IV engine, and the electronic actuation device operates also injection system.
Prevention

Described systems of ignition do not demand adjustment.


Removal and installation of the distributor of ignition

Removal and installation of the distributor of ignition do not represent great difficulties. Elements of system of ignition of the DOHC engine are represented in drawing.

It is possible to establish the distributor of ignition only in one, the correct situation.

Check of elements of system of ignition

In the carburetor DOHC engine it is necessary to disconnect the multicontact socket of the module of management of ignition of ESC II and to measure by means of a multimeter resistance and tension on the chosen contacts of the socket according to the provided table.

In case of the wrong values of electric parameters before to consider this element damaged, it is necessary to check a condition of the corresponding electric contour.
